Stripe partners with Revolut to support payments and expansion
Fintech powerhouses Stripe and Revolut have joined forces, with Revolut using Stripe’s technology to support payments made in the UK and Europe. The two companies will later work together to support Revolut’s expansion into new markets. Revolut wants to launch in Mexico and Brazil, leveraging Stripe’s payments infrastructure and global footprint to help them achieve it. The London-based fintech says that Stripe’s support will “offer its customers a seamless payment experience that matches their local payment preferences”.
Apple, Google under pressure as EU approves Digital Markets Act
New legislation due to come into force this autumn, is expected to loosen platform holders/ control over iOS and Google Play. According to this law, they must allow users to install third party apps or app stores that use or interoperate with the gatekeeper's operating system. They must also allow users to easily uninstall pre-installed apps or change default settings on operating systems, virtual assistants and web browsers that steer them to the gatekeeper's own products and services.
Romanian government publishes plan for 40% tax on gambling withdrawals
Previously, gambling withdrawals in Romania of less than RON66,750 (£11,579/€13,493/$13,980) were taxed at 1%. However, now beyond RON10,000, the tax rate will be 40%, plus a RON1,700 fee. When the tax hike was first reported, trade body the Association of Remote Gambling Organisations (AOJND) said that it would push players towards illegal operators
TikTok is testing the ability to restrict livestreams to viewers who are 18+
Users who have access to the new option can navigate to their settings and toggle the “mature themes” button to restrict their LIVE to adults. It’s important to note that TikTok’s new 18+ restriction setting for livestreams isn’t a way for users to broadcast adult content, as the content is still subject to the app’s policies. Instead, it’s a way for creators to prevent minors from encountering content that’s aimed toward an adult audience or may be uninteresting to them.

PMK demands immediate ban on online gambling in India
He criticized the DMK government for not bringing in a law to ban online gambling after the earlier ban was quashed by the Madras High Court. But he welcomed the government’s decision to form a committee headed by K. Chandru, a retired judge of the High Court, to look into the issue. He said alcohol, drugs and online gambling were the major problems that affected the next generation in Tamil Nadu. Online gambling was widespread among the youth, and it had claimed many lives since 2014.
